A rubber eraser is bendable and moldable, like silly putty. It leaves no eraser crumbs like a plastic eraser will. A plastic eraser is white and rectangular, can't be shaped, and leaves crumbs. It doesn't even erase very well and I don't know why they exist. You never need any other kind of eraser than a rubber eraser.

a rubber eraser will leave black marks and a plastic eraser will clean nothing i have never heard of a plastic eraser and so you are right this is a dumb question

plastic erasers don't work as well, besides the make-up of the eraser

rubber erases cleaner and doesnt leave as much of a smudge
