There is no limit to the amount of formula you can take on the plane, as long as it is not prepared, and if you are brining bottled water with you to prepare it, it is subject to the 3 oz limit.

"These are allowed in your carry-on baggage or personal items. You can take these through the security checkpoints and aboard your plane. However, you must be traveling with a baby or toddler. All items including formula or breast milk will be inspected. You are not limited in the amount or volume of baby formula or breast milk you may bring in your carry-on baggage. However, if these items are in containers larger than three ounces, please perform the following:

1. Separate these items from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in your quart-size and zip-top bag.
2. Declare you have the items to one of our Security Officers at the security checkpoint.
3. Present these items for additional inspection once reaching the X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening."

My guess is that powder formula is just fine and you can use room temperature water that they can give you on the plane to mix it. You may be better off calling the airline ahead of time to see what they say about this. The last time I flew was in November and they wouldn't let us take anything liquid on the plane unless it hadn't been opened.

They did not allow us to take water on the plane during our last trip. They did allow unopened jars of baby food. I just put the scoops of formula in the bottle ahead of time and just asked for warm water on the plane. It was not a problem.

I have a question for you? I read in a later post you are breastfeeding. So why even bother with formula when your breast do a better job of providing nutrients without the hastle of the airline regulations? I'm not hasseling you, you can do whatever you feel comfortable with. I was just wondering.

Depends which country you are in and what the security measures are at your local airport. Check up on the airport's website. In UK check BAA.The rules can change from day to day. Check before you go. Good luck. Lovely kid.
