duality, in mythology, means having equal male and female forces. think of the yin/yang symbol, that's duality. when ur reading myths, the gods that possess both male and female forces are considered more powerful. this is because they understand both sides. in sumerian myths, for example, u have the god Enki. Enki is the god of water, water is a femine force but Enki is personified as a male. Enki is also the god of wisdom, he's all knowing, making him a more powerful god. another example would be Inanna, the goddess of love and war. some might have wondered how she can be both love AND war. this is because of the planet venus, in which Inanna was named after. venus is an evening star, but for half a year she is a morning star. when venus is the night star, she "goes to bed" with a different "lover" (constellation) every night, goddess of love. when she is the morning star, she fights with the sun in order to shine, hence goddess of war. i hope this helped a little bit.

This is really a question for philosophy. Duality often is used to refer to the mind / body problem. Descartes developed a philosophy which separated mind and body into two separate entities.
