Its hard to find singles in record stores anymore, they dont sell well at all (I work in a record store). If youre looking for metal and rock singles, try http://www.rockabilia.com , and if youre looking for drum and bass, trance, house, hard house, styles like that, I would suggest writing to the record label that puts out his favorite DJ's and mixes, and ask them for a catalog. They are always happy to send out catalogs, or point you to a website. It might take a little work, but give it a try! (and by the way, its easier to find electronic music singles on record album than it is to find them on cd. This might sound weird, but go to the Hot Topic store closest to you, mine sells electronic records, and a few singles too)

I'm not sure where you live, but Amoeba record stores collect a HUGE collection of DJ stuff. You can also find a lot of it on ebay suprisingly, and sometimes even itunes.

Take him to your local record shop.
Or introduce him to Ebay.
