I'm updating BIOS and just want to check the file i've downloaded is the right one.

A *.rar file is simply the method used to compress a file ( to make it smaller to download). RAR: is named after it inventor Eugene Roshal and stands for Roshal ARchive.

You may need a special program to unzip the file. HERE: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

i dont think *.rar is an extension of any program, but is a zip file. so the bios file(s) you downloaded must be in a zipper and can be extracted with WinAcer.

.rar files are like winzip file they are compressed files. You can open them using 7zip or Winrar.
