For the past two weeks, my computer is behaving strangely. Its 3.06Pentium 4 with 256 RAM. but now it processes like Pentium -PII.
I think it could b bcoz of any virus from any software downloaded from internet sites ,as I dont use any Anti virus bcoz it reduces the speed. Later on I used "String" Macaffee to clean it but it could only provide solution for time being after 1 or 2 days problem comes back again.

But cd R/W is troubling me the most.all of a sudden it stops detecting the cds in the drive n shows drive is empty while there is cd in it.when I restore the computer to some back date when it was functioning allright CD drive works well but after 1 or 2 days problem is there again.I also used a Lense cleaner CD to clean the lense nearly 2 weeks back. Is this may b a root cause of all the problems.

Pls help me to combat these problems and provide solution for some better online available Antivirus for future ref..Pls mention

As I understand it your CD ROM works sometimes, and doesn't others..You really need to have protection on your unit. Your right it sounds like a bug.. Restore to a point where the CD Rom worked. Then go to www.download.com There is a search bar at the top. Type in :
AVG FREE anti-virus download it then update it.. Then look for SPY BOT Search and Destroy..download it and update it.. After you update Spy Bot , click on "Immunize" on the main Spy Bot page.. let it run ..A window may pop up telling you, so many things have been blocked and there are so many that can be blocked... if it does , then click immunize at the top. This loads the definitions. Click block pages silently also.. Look for and download , Zone Alarm free fire wall also..You need one of these too. Then go to www. lavasoft.com and look for AD-Aware SE personal edition..Download it and then update it... These programs are all free..Then run all three programs. The Firewall runs itself.. You might want to get yourself a 512 Ram card or higher too.. You really need more than the 256 you have. You will need to run all three programs at least once a week..The AVG protects constantly. And can be set up to automatically update, and scan for problems. But you will have to open and check for updates and run the programs manually for the other 2..

Well as far as the Internet thing is concerned use any kinda spy ware removal(available free on net) or there are PC cleaner software nor if u really know about computers you can format the entire thing but don't forget to take back-up of important stuff and format it only after you have the operating systems CD. Formatting your system drive(c:) would surely solve your problem

And as far CD-ROM is concerned either your spring is not working or your lens.Get it checked if it is the problem of spring give it to technician n if something is wrong with lens forget the ROM its far more better to buy a new one its always preferable to change your ROM after every 2-3 years if u use a lot of pirated and scratched CD

The problem may even arise if there is an alignment problem in the CD rw or you cannot say its only a lense problem from it will solve even if there is a belt is there in the CD/rw even gets worn out even CD ROM drive some times dosent work . What i can say it that you take it to the service centre and ask him weather it can be repaired or not if it is small problem then go ahead or in my suggestion you replace the cdrw instead of reparing now days they have become very cheaper.

Could be due to various reasons...for one, your lens is so soiled that it erratically detects the CD's...secondly,the CD ROM is not "COmatose" either service it or change the drive. As for the PC itself, do use some maintainence tools to clear the temp folders, cookies, history and other applications which occopy the RAM unnecessarily.

So, you should add more spece for RAM (will be better if yours ram is 1024 or 2048 mb) - it is first!
Second - install antivirus NOD32 (link www.nod32.com) There is demo for 30 days. Check all system for viruses and spy-ware.
If you can, bay this antivirus (bcoz it's better antivirus at this momment).
For create cd/dvd copies use Nero 7.0. This is soft for burn any disk's.

you can use any free antivirus software for checking of virus like AVG etc. but it looks like your PC is slow because of unwanted things like temp folder or some useless softwares try deleting
them. it should work.
for the CD-RW it looks like your lens is gone. you have to buy another CD-RW or get your drive fixed .

hey verify to ensure that there is not any airborne dirt and dirt on any of the Cd's as airborne dirt and dirt make impact the copying procedure. verify the disk you're copying to ensure that there are not the different problems with it. Are your drives operating ok. attempt them with different Cd's to make certain what occurs. wish this enables Scott
