I want to be able to go online on my xbox and on my computer at the same time. Is this a good one to go for? Has anyone used it for these purposes?

Hi Netgear is good gear but I think the modem router you have described is an old model an is only wireless b. You be better of with a wireless g router as per the link in the box below.

I have the same one a netgear dg834G. Its excellent. We can run 2 pc's and 2 xboxes through the router although only 3 of these items are connected at anyone time as my son can be on msn on his laptop and play on halo 2 at the same time but I can't lol

I have one xbox hardwired to the router and the other is connected via a belkin wireless adapter, not as good as the netgear to set up but does the job and about half the price of a microsoft adapter.

I bought my router from ebay, cost me £35 and the adapter was £25.

To configure the netgear router is quite simple providing you follow netgear's instructions and took me about 10 minutes. The belkin wireless adapter is a bit more complicated and took me about 3 hours before it was right. Problem with the adapter is that it is not plug and play and the router doesn't see it unless its plugged into the xbox and xbox switched on. Funny thing is that I now have a 360 and the router can find the adapter when the 360 is switched off. Just saved you about 2 and a half hours there if you decide to buy the adapter.

To sum up, buy the Netgear DG834G version 2 and not the one in your link. Get that working with your xbox hardwired before thinking of going wireless with your xbox. If you need a hand drop me an email. Also check out www.teamxlink.co.uk if you want to play halo 2 online. Its better than xbox live, totally free and you can go on there with a chipped xbox. Have fun

through expierince and using a router made by netgear for my xbox live purposes i can safely say it is a good router and hasnt failed me, and hasnt failed me since i started to use the wireless adapter with my model of netgear router, so trust me netgear routers get the job done and it has more than enough ethernet ports to get the job done
