Is it better to think over the answers or go with a gut feeling if you dont know the answer?

I depends on what type and level of position you are looking for. For example, there are some strategical questions that a recent MBA grad would be expected to have stock answers to and respond to very quickly. On the other hand, a seasoned professional who has not been actively looking would be expected to take his or her time and provide insightful answers showing wisdom and experience.

As much as possible, it's always best to rehearse your answers to possible interview questions in advance.

Spontaneity in answering questions is good, but it is always wise to think before you give any kind of response to the interviewer.Answering questions with gut feeling may not always sound confident or up to the point or may not be what the person is looking for.....there are chance that it may put you in a soup..so its is always advisable to take few minitues to analyze the question or situation. This will also give the interviewer an idea that you are firm mind and will not take decissions with out thinking.
