It's being held on the 16th. Why? The 17th is on a Saturday this year, so I'm not sure why they are doing this? It's not like this conflicts with anything - except a work day. Are there no Irish people involved in the planning of this event? I've been all over their website, (http://www.indystpats.com), but no mention on why they are doing such an ungodly thing.

I don't know this for certain, but my guess is that they are doing this to help beef up their turnout at the parade. My son's birthday is on St. Patty's Day, so we've been to the parade almost every year, and often the people out in the croud with us are folks who have come out of their downtown offices to watch over their lunchbreaks. It's too bad-I'd be curious to see if their were more families/community involvement if they had it on Saturday. Oh well-either way, we will be there-how many kids get to have their very own parade on their birthday!!

That is so puzzling, but I wonder if it's because they actually want to get a day off of work! If it's on Saturday, it's obviously more convenient. I have heard of Sunday holidays being changed to Saturday, as for most people Sunday is the sabbath, but unless it's a 7th Day Adventist who is in charge of the parade, I can't see a good reason to hold it on Friday.
