I love having my nails gel filled but I just find that after I get a new set my hands kill. I have gone to 5 different places and everyone seems to be so rough. Is it normal for it to hurt that much?

getting nails shouldn't really hurt. maybe you are super sensitive? if not, then you may want to question some of the places you've been to. have they all been discount salons? if so, then that may be part of your problem. some discount salons use a cheaper illegal product called methyl methacrylic or mma. it's hard for states to regulate the use of mma because there's more salons than there are people to inspect them, so it's easy for many places to get away with it. mma can be very damaging. improper filing and harsh drilling can cause pain too. things to check in a nail salon:

current license displayed
product used-opi, creative, tammy tayler, nsi, gelousy are a few
sanitation-did they clean they file they used on the last person? how about the drill?
can they tell you what product they are using? red flag if they won't

don't let your nail tech abuse you. a trip to a nail salon should be a relaxing experience. and if they're not careful, rough technicians can cause permanent damage to your nails

you may have sensitive nail plate. However, it should not really be painful, try going to the best place you can afford. Creative nails are very good , very.
or try a Jessica manicure in between to give your nails a bit of nourishment and some TLC
good luck...

you might just have overly sensitive hands. let your manicurist know and they'll be extra gentle. if you get a arcylic put over your natural nails it thins it out with all the sanding & buffing so you might feel extra pain under your nail bed over time.
