If you know of a fish, with a purple or lavendar shade, with barbs, could you post it's common or scientific name? Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by bards but if you are referring to spines I have your fish: Labiodochromis coeruleus Here's a link to a picture (don't mind the German)
http://www.worldexplorer.be/labidochromis_coeruleus.htm the dorsal fin has quite a few spines as well as the anal fin.

Anyways if you need to know a bit about its biology it is an African cichlid that comes from Lake Nyasa, grows to around 8 cm, and is a mouthbrooder, which means the female incubates the eggs in her mouth and when they've hatched they young can go into her mouth for protection.

If that's the kind of fish you wanted you can also check out Limnochromis auritus or Pseudotropheus zebra.

A common purple (internet pics don't do them justice) fish with barbels is the zebra danio (Brachydanio rerio). It is in the cyprinidae, like carp and goldfish, the barbels aren't very long but they are there !
