Prepare well, and know that even seasoned speakers get the jitters. You just have to plow on through and the more experience you have, the better it gets, but they never go away if you are doing a good job speaking (rather than coming off as a know-it-all). One of the miracles that occurs when you are well prepared (not ''perfect" - but you know your material) is you can gwt your attention off yourself, and out there on your audience, making the connection with them as though it is a 2-way conversation.

You just have to keep doing it. Over and over. And it helps to remind yourself that there are usually no serious negative consequences to making a fool of yourself in front of an audience. Everyone does it sooner or later, so so what?

Practice, practice, practice as much as you can with people who you feel comfortable with. I had this problem as well and took a public speaking class in college that was a big help. Knowing your material inside and out helps as well.
