My friend took castor oil and the DR had a fit! He says it is very bad for the baby ad is an old wives tale. It dehydrates you from all of the diarrhea it makes you have and the "cramps" you feel are not contractions at all they are just cramps from the castor oil...bottom line I wouldn't! He told her walking was more effective than anything else.

Good Luck!

I have a cousin who was 2 weeks overdue with both of her kids, and did the castor oil both times as soon as she left the doctor's office. It worked for her. The first time, she told the doctor after the delivery, and he got onto her a little and her told her that it really does work, but that is why they don't want people to know it - they don't want women trying to do it when it's too soon and then have something be wrong with the baby. The second time, she was too miserable at 2 weeks overdue again and did it anyway.

Yep, old wives tale. It'll give you intestinal cramping but not uterine cramping. If it really worked, I'm sure some pharmaceutical company would've investigated and made it into the perfect medicine to induce labor.
