A lot of it comes from Greek and Latin. The optic nerve comes from the Greek word for 'going to see'. Nose comes from a dirivitave of nasal, which comes from Latin 'nasus' - breathe. Femur is Latin for thigh. The way a lot of the words were originally thought up in Greek and Latin was things were named for things that they represent. The word 'mind' comes from the Greek 'menos' - which means memory. Forehead comes from Latin, fore meaning 'before', head from Old English 'hed', so 'before the head'.
