It's certainly faux pas. I checked just in case the plural of pas was paux. Paux doesn't exist as a french word.

"faux pas" The term comes from French and literally means "false step". However, it is a formal rather than everyday expression in French and does not generally have the figurative meaning used in English. It is occasionally employed to describe a physical loss of balance or general mistakes (for instance: mes faux pas dans la vie, the mistakes I made in my life). If one uses faux pas with the English meaning in France, people might think it was a slight grammatical mistake with faut pas, the colloquial pronunciation of il ne faut pas, meaning must not in English. For faux pas with the English meaning, the French would usually say gaffe or erreur.

That's probably a regional spelling thing, like how in America it's theater and in Canada it's theatre. They're probably both right if you've found them in a dictionary, so don't worry about it, use the one you like the best.

This was recently. Stupidest mistake. EVER. Ok, so me & my dad were discussing if we want to go to the gym or not. On and On...My mom calls the next minute later and says," I'm in the ER room and....."so on and afterall she had a rip misplacement that was pushing into her chest. So, after she calls, my dad was really worried and guess what I say even after I knew what happened to my mom, "Are we going to the gym?" Epic Fail. Next moment, my dad was screaming & yelling @ me. Stupidest thing ever. MQ: An Honest Mistake - The Bravery, Same Mistake - James Blunt, My Favorite Mistake - Sheryl Crow
