Champ Bailey may not be the premier "cover corner" in NFL history, but if he's not, I don't know who is. ... Those who say Deion Sanders was better are forgetting cornerbacks in Deion's heyday were allowed to play receivers more aggressively.
If Champ were lined up across from Jerry Rice and ten passes were thrown Jerry's way, Jerry would catch six of them: two slants, an out, two crossing routes, and a comeback. Champ would make plays on the other four, intercepting two of them ... taking one to "the house."

I understand there a lot of Jerry Rice fans out there, and there should be. So you are going to hear a lot of Jerry Rice answers. However, if you look at each abilities and not stats, the answer is clear. Who is faster? Champ Bailey. Who has more jumping ability? Champ Bailey. Who has better acceleration and agility? Champ Bailey. Now they both manage to swallow the ball like a magent, but I believe Champ Bailey would shut him down. No matter who was throwing the ball.

Champ Bailey is a great CB. Best of all time? Not sure about that.
If Rice was in his prime vs Bailey now and if a QB threw ten balls, I'd say Rice would catch 6-7 and Bailey would intercept the rest or knock the pass down.

First off, Champ Bailey isn't the greatest CB of all time. That prize would go to Dick "Night Train" Lane. Secondly, Jerry Rice is not only the best WR to ever play but the best ever NFL football player period. He would make Champ look bad.

Jerry Rice, he knows where he is going and Champ doesn't, it would come down to the quarterback but if the ball is where it needs to be, jerry rice would win. He runs routes like nobody else ever. oh, and champ bailey isn't the best corner ever, remember how quarterbacks would not even look on deion sanders side of the field in his prime, he would shut down half of the field for the whole game.

Depends. At Jerry Rice's height in his career, Jerry Rice. Maybe today, right now, probably Bailey. Jerry Rice is like 45, and for a wide-reciever that is very old.

I would have to say Jerry Rice. Stats do not lie, and just watching his performance on the field says volumes about how good he is. There were a few games where Jerry Rice "OWNED" Champ Bailey and burned him for touchdowns and long yardage gains. He "posterized" defenders every chance he got because they could not keep up with him.
Of course, Jerry was part of the 49er teams that won Super Bowls and had very good teammates around him to make the team successful.
I attended his private workouts in Northern California, followed his career from day one with the 49ers, chatted with him briefly at our local Starbucks, met him numerous times as a fan and through his good friend, who was my boss at EA Sports.

Jerry Rice if he was still young. That is not a fair match up because Rice is 40 now and Champ is only in his 20s.

Deion Sanders would first punch Champ Bailey in the nuts and take his place on the field to make this a legitamate question. Then, as history has already proven, Jerry Rice would still win because his routes and hands were flawless.
* Also, a late side note. Jerry Rice was very good in Tecmo Super Bowl. He gets underrated because he had no streak routes.
