No - soaking your Doc Martens in water will ruin the leather.
If they do not start to break in after wearing them around the house w/ thick socks, then take them to a cobbler to have them stretched out. A cobbler/shoe repair shop is the safest and most effective way to go.

I've had the same pair of Docs for about 10 years. i had heard that too, but i just started wearing the crap out of them. they broke in just fine and they're still comfy. just make sure you have good socks on and that they fit well to begin with. it seems risky to plunge a $120 pair of boots into that much water, y'know? good luck.

i've heard of that, but i wouldn't try it. just wear some really thick socks with them and wear them every chance you get.

when i have had leather shoes that are too tight, i have packed them really tight with newspaper and poured boiling water into them. not sure how it works, but it does.
