The rich do NOT pay the greater share of taxes. The truly rich, those that make their living from investments, pay only a 15% tax rate. The middle class pays over 30% in taxes on wages. The rich also pay Social security on the first $92,000 they earn so a millionaire pays a fraction of a percent for SS while the wage earner pays 5% or more.
The rich cry about welfare for the poor but are not afraid to get welfare for the rich such as tax breaks for the oil companies when they are having record profits.
In the 1950s the rich had a tax rate of over 90% and corporations payed the majority of the taxes collected by the U.S. Now the burden is completely on the middle class.

Taxes are of course too high. Not only do high taxes punish the productive but also give too much money to the government to curtail our freedoms in order to do favors for their friends. The Bush tax cuts have removed millions of working Americans from the federal income tax rolls(a good thing), however some of those cuts have been blunted by increases in state and local taxes(a bad thing). It is a rare thing when those who pay taxes are those who benefit from them

1st of all you are twisting the truth and making it seem like the rich pay the most taxes! That is a blatant lie!

And they damn sure don't pay 50% or more of their income in Federal, State, local, taxes on their homes! That doesn't even include fees!

The vast majority of the taxes are paid by those making $100,000 to $44,000!

Only 2.8 Million people earn more than $200,000!

95% of America makes less than $200,000 (with only 9.7 million Americans earning between $100,000 to $200,000) and pay most off the taxes! Do you think they are rich, though they are whom you include in your twisted figures?

50% of America makes less than $30,000, though the median wage is around $44,000 a year!

Of the top 50% of wage earners, over 90% are make between $40,000 and $200,000! Those are your taxpayers.

The top 5% should pay 50% of their income in taxes and other fees, JUST LIKE WE DO! And they still would pay a far less percentage of their income toward housing and food percentage wise, than any American making less than $200,000!

Your logic is as twisted as those who believe "the richest" pay most of the taxes! THEY DON'T and NEVER HAVE!

Those who pay the most taxes earn $40,000 and $200.000, the vast majority under $100,000! They are rich is your inference? I think they might disagree with you!!

If idiots like Bush wouldn't keep hiking the National Debt by 3 1/2 TRILLION in 6 years, maybe all of us could pay less in taxes, as 50% goes toward the national debt INTEREST and military!!

It is human nature to think taxes are too high. If everyone paid a one cent tax every year some would complain that their tax is too high.

It is all in your perspective. Some feel the wealthy and corporations should pay less in taxes so the greedy not only get more than their share but have some left to trickle down to the rest. (crumbs for the poor). Others believe that those best equiped to pay should do so, and those less equiped to pay need not do so.

Everyone should pay his fair share but no one seems to agree on what that fair share is. This argument has gone on for centuries and will continue for centuries to come.

Too high. The US Govt. is an expert in how to waste US taxpayer money. They don't care how they spend tax money because they are never held accountable for their actions. They don't care if the waste a billion here or a billion there because they'll never get in trouble for wasting the money & there's plenty more to use to waste if they screw something up. If the US Govt was a business they would have gone bankrupt many years ago but because US taxpayers have no choice but to give them more of their money the US Govt. never goes out of business. The US govt. is a lot like organized crime.

I don't have a problem with personal tax levels. I think corporations should be more responsible for paying taxes. Many top corporations use loop-holes to not pay taxes. In many cases, fortune 500 companies can figure out ways to not pay any taxes at all.

When Woodrow Wilson initiated the income tax, he said "it would never go above 3%, and besides only the wealthy would have to pay." Wish he could see what he started.
