I posted something earlier today about being discriminated against in my workplace in many ways and most people said "walk out" well that is not an option for me... I need the money, insurance, and the reference. I am planning on quitting after I get my maternity leave pay and finding a new job, but for right now this is unbearable!! All I do is cry at my desk day after day. These people are just unreasonable and crazy! My mother actualy works here in HR and doesn't agree with anything these people are doing to me, but can't speak her mind because I am her daughter. I am going to see a therapist about this. I want to be told to leave work and go on short tem disability. How can I convince her that I need to, and what would you all do in my situation? I just want out... I don't deserve to be told that my hair is this my clothes are that and that I can't put up my 3d ultrasound picture because it looks gothic... its just not fair to me.

You need to complain to the State Employment department.

You are in a protected class & you shouldn't have to put up with this.

Also, you need to be careful about "planning" on quitting after you get your leave - read up carefully, if you don't return to work for a certain amount of time, you may be responsible to pay them back (I just want you to be aware because if they are being jerks now, you don't want to find out later!)

Hang in there and take care of yourself.

(And congratulations!)

What you describe is not discrimination. Its just insensitive co-workers. You don't need a therapist, you need to refocus on your job and do it well. Associate with the positive persons at work and stay away from the malcontents or mean ones. There has to be a few good ones in the place.

Don't bemoan you fate, get up and make the best of the situation. Your mother is right to not get involved. You do not have an HR problem, you have a personal problem. Get off the ground and make a difference instead of finding reasons to complain, cry and search for attention. Your desire to put up ultrasound pictures is just an attempt to get focus attention on you and you are upset because no one wants to hear it. Get over it.

1st off, there is something you can do and all it requires is that you be truthful. Your mother works in HR correct? Then she should have all the paperwork necessary. Your "problem" fall under the discrimination laws and section 7.

2nd, As long as your mother isn't in your "chain of command" manager then she can and should say something to her supervisor because she is getting the information 2nd hand, from you.

3rd, Have you talked to your supervisor about what is going on? If he/she is the problem then you NEED to see whomever is over them. There should be a complaint hotline or something in place for just this type of situations, if not then call the labor board directly.

4th, this type of situation is a time bomb for any company, get a lawyer for more information and confirmation.

Unfortuanately they are right about pictures though, they must be in good taste.

if you dont return to work after your maternity leave, they can require you to repay it. also, you only get about $200 a week ( i dont know what stae you are in or whatever). also, its work rules if they dont want an ultrasound picture going up.

i think you need to GO IN AND TALK TO HR. too many times people just complain but never actually try to confront the problem. go in and talk it out with the HR director. if you bone the company by doing what you have stated, you are just digging a hole for yourself.

I think the one girl meant contact your Employee Assistance Program, which is a good idea.
