-A gift certificate to a restaurant
My mom and I worked on baby shower invitations and thank you cards for a neighbor, and now we're creating the programs for her wedding. Of course we didn't take any money from her, and expected nothing in return, but she gave us a gift certificate to a lovely place we've never been too, and now it's one of my favorite restaurants :) Or, why not just invite the person out to dinner with you? This is better if you want it to feel more intimate and not make anyone uncomfortable by giving them anything with a direct monetary value. Pay for their meal as a way of thanking them for helping you out.

-Gift Basket
You can either buy or hand make one. There are tons of beautiful ones in all different themes available online or by catalog. You can pick one that is centered around a particular interest of the person you're thanking or just choose one that you think they'd enjoy. Then, personalize it with a hand written note. Gifts are nice to receive, but your gratitude shown in a card can really show him/her how much you appreciated their help.

Whatever you do, I'm sure the family member will be grateful that you put a deal of thought into thanking them in an appropriate way. Good luck :)

Remember, this is family, and family does things for each other.

That being said, it is nice to acknowledge a kindness.

Does this person do your taxes every year, or was this particular tax form very complicated?

Thanks can range from a very nice Thankyou card, to taking the person out for dinner.
Figure where your tax problem fits in to this cost mix...Remember this is family, not a commercial person.

A polite observe thanking the sender, yet explaining that they do no longer seem to be allowed to settle for gratuities, and the presents are decrease back. the superb thank you to thank an officer who has long gone above the call of accountability is a short letter to his chief or sheriff. which means better than any cloth present.
