How do you catch a hacker?

You will never catch a good hacker. They know enough to cover their tracks very well. They can appear to be in several different country's at once. Even appear to be using your computer.

I'd say it's luck only the stupid/inexperinced crackers get caught the pro's don't it's a waste of time because crackers hide behind fleets of comprimised pcs/zombies he could be sitting outside a glass building in any downtown area issuing commands to his fleet from a hijacked wireless connection good luck finding the

this is very tricky, since you need to be a good network admin.
to be able to trace since you would need to know there exact ip address and then u can find out where they are eg state/country and internet service provider and then u send an email the ISP with the logs from eg a firewall. with their ip address and the ISP will take action against them.
eg the common email address is abuse@ispname like [e-mail] (this is the company i work for abuse email address)

You can hire an agent to do it for you or go study computer science if you are good in mathematics.

Usually most hackers don't leave a trail.. But if you want to try i suggest you Call Your ISP. They have better network/firewall stratagies than you will ever have.
