No WMD were found there.
Saddam is no more.
Iraq has never been a threat for American security.
Everybody knows there is nothing like AlQaeeda present in Iraq its all war propaganda.
And what America call Al Qaeeda is nothing more than those people who are against him.
I myself have heard several times on CNN and other News channels American officials saying that AlQaeeda is not like a physically existing organization but it is a more a concept, means any body in the entire world who is against America and want an arm struggle against it is a member of AlQaeeda.
There are so many countries in the world where there is no Democracy does it mean America will invade all those countries.
Nobody invest that much amount of money without any interest. Also there are so many American soldiers dying there.

I think the US invaded Iraq as a grand plan from within the Bush administration to civilize and democratize one important country in the region. Recall that after World War II Japan became a democratic, prosperous and peaceful nation after our victory and occupation. I think there were some in the administration hoping that with a bold stroke of toppling Saddam and fostering democracy - we could see a similar transformation as in Japan. Then other radical despotic regimes would envy Iraq's success and become more democratic, prosperous and peaceful.

Alas none of that has come to pass. And the reason is likely a poor understanding or the culture and politics of the region. Naivite mixed with hawkishness has now cost the US half a TRILLION dollars, 3000 US lives and thousands more wounded. That's not to mention that we have lost respect in the world due to the fact that the war was waged under phony pretenses - like the WMDs you mentioned.

By their own admission there are now lots of AlQaeeda in Iraq. So you are incorrect on that point.

We are certainly not there to steal their oil. But the US has a vested interest in a stable middle east because so much oil come from there.

The fact that no significant WMD were found in Iraq is in no way evidence that they were not once there. Since Iraq used them, we know for a fact that they WERE there; the issue is: what became of them? To find out, see:

i know the us has lost 3000+ lives in iraq but think about this for a second,

we have been in iraq for 4 years and have lost 3000 soldiers (750 troops a year)

we were in WW2 for 4 years and lost 242,000 soldiers (60,500 per year)

we were in the civil war for 5 years and lost about 600,000 soldier (union+confederates) (thats 120,000 per year)

now can you really complain about how many troops we have lost when just 65 years ago we were losing about 81 times more troops per year. adn just 140some years ago we were losing 160 times more troops a year.

now let me restate that each one of those 3000+ lives is a terrible loss, but in historicall context it is one of the least bloodiest wars we have ever faught in (probably #2 or #3).
