my i.d. was not stolen . i am wondering what would be the case if it did happen .
Concerning my checking , credit cards and debit card : if my i.d. was stolen by someone and they depleted my checking account and maxed out my credit cards , would my money in my checking account be gone , and how much would i be liable for on my credit cards . i have heard i would only be liable for $50 dollars on credit cards but what about my money in the checking account . would it be lost ? thanks again .

You are not liable for more than $50 on your credit cards if you report them stolen...I think the contract reads Liability after theft notification. But I have never heard of a credit card company charginging anyone for purchases not done by them or an authorized person. So contact all the credit card companies right away.

Chequing account. The bank will refund all money fraudulently taken from your bank accounts, IF THE OTHER PERSON DOES NOT HAVE YOUR P.I.N. .

in otherwords, someone writing cheques with your cheque book, the bank would re-imburse you when you proved you didn't write them . But if they used your PIN number to access a bank machine, you are out of luck.

Notify your bank, Close the chequing acct and open another one.

Ah, yea, if they deplete your checking account then yes money is gone. FDIC will not insure. Credit cards have several different liability responsibilities. Some charge fees for them some are part of the credit agreement. Contact your bank and your creditors for contract agreements. It's not cut and dry.

You are too negative for me to deal with answering this. You do know that by worrying over things that 'could' happen will make them happen don't you? The power of the mind is an amazing thing. Think positive....on the other hand maybe if you keep thinking someone is going to steal your identity, no one will because they won't want to be your negativity self.

well the government agency called FICA gurrentees your money in your checking account for up to 100,000 dollars if it is stolen or the bank just goes under for what ever reason. you may have to prove that your ID was stolen.
