Many acne products contain menthol, camphor, and/or mint. These ingredients really irritate my skin so I stick w/ products that do not contain them.
I suggest you look through your products and see if this may be causing the problem.
Some brands/products I've had good experience with are:
Oxy 10 face wash & PanOxyl soap (Benzoyl peroxide products - effective but a little drying.)
Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser - ideal for removing all makeup.
Toners: Witch hazel (Thayer's w/ Aloe Vera or generic) & Alba.
Neutrogena products - but read the label first.
Murad AHA/BHA cleanser.
If avoiding menthol, etc. doesn't help, go see a dermatologist.
One really good site for reference is www.cosmeticscop.com.
Hope this helps.

Topical products may not be the answer then. See yr doctor and ask about oral treatments, they can put you on antibiotics for a few months that will clear it up (I am in the middle of this process now) and if you're female ask for a low dose birth control because it will regulate your hormones, which cause breakouts. Once that is squared away, you can switch to using a gentle clanser (like Neutrogena, or I like Neoclear) without any harsh medications in it and it will be good enough to keep your face clear.

My skin is very sensitive and I visited a dermatologist who gave me some good products, although it took a while to notice a difference...
But before that I had to make do and some of the things I did were:
Try to drink more water.
Wash your face with a hyperallergenic cleanser.
Only use oil free makeup.
Try not to touch your face too much.

I use Serious Skin Care's products for break out prone skin/acne. I also use tea tree oil that is available at a lot of health food stores. I mix the Tea tree oil with witch hazel so it doesn't dry out my skin.

Go see your dermotologist and ask about accutane. This will definitly clear it up for you, in the meantime, use a mild cleanser and mositurizer, like Cetaphil. Wash face with cool or cold water only. Don't sqeeze or pick, because infection will spread.
Good Luck!
