well, you don't have to be honest about your income when you fill out a credit card application. This pushy credit card marketer on my college campus was giving out free stuff and trying to make everyone sign up for a credit card. I signed for one and it ask my income. I didn't have a job at the time and the credit card marketer said to put down whatever number. Couple weeks later, I got a credit card in my mail. That was over 5 years ago and I have never used it at all til this date. (there's only a $1000 credit limit on it).

What you can do is this. If you have a checking and saving account, see if they offer secured credit cards. How it usually works is that you place a deposit minimum of $200 into an minimal interest drawing savings account. That deposit secures you a line of credit. The best way to manage the card is to make small purchases (like around $20-30/month) and pay it off in full every month. Your card will then be unsecured and you'll get your deposit back with interest. Another option would be to get a stored value visa or mastercard that you can load the money on. This option is good as well becuase it can double as your check card/checking account if you don't have a checking account. I've supplied a link to research and apply for one, if not both

You can book hotels and plane tickets with a BANK card link to your bank account. That way you can't spend money you don't have.
You don't NEED a credit card just to book a flight and a room, or even a car. If you are making $1200/month I'm more concerned about you borrowing money from a credit card company than anything else. You could get in over your head very easily.

The first credit card I ever got was a Discover card and I had a lower income that what you have. I think they are a little more lenient than other cards about their applicants. However, you may need to check and make sure the place you're using it will accept Discover. Alot of places only accept Mastercard or Visa.
