Black ruby barbs are not very nippy, so a small school is fine; 3 would be the minimum, go with 4 or 5 if you can, just so they feel comfortable.

All fish are happier in schools. It is the best way to observe their personalities.
5 to a school is the best, but 3 in a school is also fine. It has been said that in schools the fishes colors seem to be more colorful, than if you only had one.
Ruby barbs can grow over 5 inches and can be very dominant towards other fish.

Barbs are nasty little fish, and should be kept in schools. 3 should be fine, but you might be better with 4 or 5 (the 2 might attack the one, ect ect.)

But If you've already gotten the fish together, they should be alright. As long as the tanks big enough.
