A regular DVD holds 4.7 Gb. You are talking about the dual layer DVDs. A cd holds 700 Mb the old one's used to hold 640.

You can fit approx 6.5 700Mb cd's onto one regular DVD

You can fit approx 13 700 Mb cd's onto one dual layer DVD

Cd's hold around 700 megs a DVD around 8 gigs so more than 10 times more. DVDs burn much slower than Cd's though.
