I really like cars and love driving. I especially like driving well engineered cars the way they were designed to be driven. I recently bought a new car and it just amazes me daily- so tight and quick-mmm mmm! But I swear it can feel my love. If I let it get dirty or allow the inside to become not immaculate, it seems to slow down just a little bit. The steering seems to loosen, or the suspension will soften. When I detail it, the problems are gone. I swear she gets a little bitter if I don't keep up on this stuff. ( Yes, I thank her after an awesome drive...) Anyone elses car behave this way?

I've heard that Germans are detail oriented to the point of being anal. Maybe it's because she's a Frauline? Or maybe because the company was originally a race car company and race cars are never dirty?

Rob, obviously you're not a driver and you own a Dodge Omni. I feel your pain.

I have since learned that it might not be love, but Carma. And by the way, people with no feelings for cars and things mechanical don't need to respond. You can get your 2 points in Home and Garden or something.

Cars can feel love... if you believe it. Just look at that person on the side of the road kicking his tire cuz his car broke down. Where is the love?

I wonder if "Rob" is short for robot. I don't thing any breathing real human being could make a comment like that. And I know he can't spell. However to your question... I doubt if cars can actually "feel" anything but they do respond well to loving care. A clean. well maintained vehicle will always perform better than one in need of lube and oil or one that is weighed down with dirt and mud. And Native Americans believe that there is "spirit" in everything. So who knows, maybe your car does love you.

I know what you're talking about. When my car is dirty, I swear that it's not as powerful as it when it's clean and detailed. But what's really happening are two psychological phenomena: transference - when you reflect/transfer your feelings onto something (or someone else) and anthromorphication - when you endow non-human objects with human qualities and emotions. Since you're very attached to your car, it bothers you when you don't take care of it to the level that you know you are capable. You feel bad, so your car feels bad and shows it. When your car is clean and the tank is full, you feel great -- so your car feels great and behaves! So you're not alone. I swear if I don't clean my car soon, it's going to leave me! LOL!

its a whole superstitious thing. im an aircraft mechanic with the air force and we are very superstitious people. if we are about to launch we'll give it a little "love rub" on the belly or wingtip. we always load things for the crew on the left side of the plane. and we never speak badly of the plane around aircrews. we also never say "good luck" to the aircrew....bad karma. so i can kind of see that cars, or even aircraft feel love. hope this helps
