I'm not talking about someone trying to make a move on you. I'm sure most women have experienced that once in their lifetime.

I needed a lift home from downtown once as I was at a conference and it had gotten late and I didn't want to take the subway, so this woman who lived in my area agreed. Others I knew, knew her, so I thought ok why not. As we're driving home, she gets on her cell phone, flips down the mirror, and starts putting her makeup on with the other hand while she steers with her knees...I just about wanted to leap out the window!!! This was a really well known-supposedly-respected business woman too....I just couldn't believe it. Never have I driven with anyone that nim-witted!!!

That had to be scary. My experience was scary in a different way. I was 19 and took a ride from a woman I worked with. This woman tried to make a move on me and when I told her it was nothing personal but I had no interest sexually in any female, she proceeded to drive very fast in the wrong direction. all the time cursing and screaming at me for being 'anti-gay' and telling me how she intended to 'turn me out' in the next few days. I was so scared I started crying. She immediately calmed down, and started saying how sorry she was. I just got out of the car and started walking. When I got to a pay phone I called my dad to come get me. I never went back to that job. Not even to pick up my last check.

Dear Eve,

First, I want to point-out that I loved your answer to the question regarding the "office know-it-all" that another woman is having to deal with. Wow, you should be a corporate psychologist (or, maybe you are one).

As to your question on getting a ride that you regretted. YES! I have done so on more than one occassion. This is probably why many people consider me to be a bit of a "lone wolf". Yeah, I am a team player, but I have found that I can rely on myself better than I can rely on others. Two examples:

One time, long ago, I was offered a ride from an uncle of mine. Little did I know that the man loves to take the scenic route and stop along the way to chit chat with friends and business owners that he knows. He went from one business place to another just to talk to the owners and workers and spend some time. Whew, I could not wait to get to where I was going! A 20 minute drive turned-into a 3 hour odyssey, taking every back road and stopping at every conceivable place imaginable!

My favorite is the time that a secretary from the company where I was working offered to drive me to the nearby airport. It is only a 5 mile drive, but what a drive it was! I am one of those people that drives in the right lane, as the law suggests, obeys the speed limit, and anticipates what's next on the road. As soon as this woman got on the road, she immediately moved over to the far left lane (for no good reason) on a 6 lane highway. A mile down the road, I could see the traffic lights turning yellow about 200 yards in the distance. After yellow comes red, right? Instead of coasting or anticipating a stop, she starts to accelerate! I am like, 'What does she intend to do when we are 25 yards away and the light turns red for us?!' She looked over at me and could see that I was nervous. She asked, "Are you nervous about the business trip?" And, I replied, "I will stop being nervous when you drop me off at the airport."

Cheers.

Yes - I had a friend we car pooled with and when he talked to someone in the back seat, he had to turn around to look at them (while doing 75 on I-80)

Yes, but only from a sicko that pulled over to um do something to himself. I was scared to death! Never again.
