I owe $6000 on it and the motor would cost $5000 including labor. This puts the money into it, more than it's even worth.

autozone has rebuilt engines for this in range of 3300 to 3500. That seems pretty high to me. check around with different shops in your area for estimates. you can also check at wrecking yards for a used engine and ask if they can install. or if your handy and have time install it yourself. other than that its a tough position to be in. you could maybe trade it in as is but you won't get as much as you owe. I checked trade in value low end running was $5000. so your trade in value would be less than that.

$5,000 sounds like the cost of a new/rebuilt engine. I would be checking around for a good used engine. Try and find a shop that is willing to supply and install with at least a 30 day warranty.

You should be able to find a rebuilt engine for less than $5000.00 . Check on used engine from a wrecking yard.
