The nearest hundredth means you only want 2 places after the decimal point. If the next digit is less than 5 then your significant figures stay the same. That is:

0.29 or 2.9 x 10^-1 for scientific notation

I don't understand what you mean on the second problem

Always look at digit one to the right that you are suppose to round to, if 5 or greater add one to the digit

.29229 etc
hundredth digit is 1st 9, to right is 2 - this is less than five so answer is .29

.6161 etc
hundredth digit is 1st 1, digit it right is 6 which is greater than 5 so add one result is
.62

Here's the rule in rounding, never round down, either round up or it stays the same. I don't give answers.

100 is 0.XX
0.005 or more goes up and less stays the same.
