The shirt is 60% cotton and 40% Polyester. Its just an old shirt that I have had for years and I thought I might try bleaching it white for a revamped shirt. I like the fit so I'd hoped I could get some more use out of it. It is predominatly dark blue, so I dont know if its possible to ever get all the color out.

It will be next to impossible. The amount of bleaching chemicals required would destroy the shirt. One way that might work is to leave the shirt in the sun to bleach. You will need several months (have to rotate the parts of the shirt exposed) of very hot temperatures with low humidity to accomplish this, but most likely, the dark blue will become a dirty, dingy blueish gray.

Sorry.

I would purchase a a box of tintex. They do have a box that takes out colour permanately first. The item has to be washed in very hot water with the colour remover. It is not recommended for 100% polyester, 100% acrylic or fabrics with special treatments and finishes. You can purchase this or similar products at any fabric store. Grocery stores also sell this product or similar product. You might have to do this maybe once or more depended how it lifts out the colour of the stripes. Hope this helps! Sunkeeper

another solution that works quiet well is call blueing its a blue bottle and the solution is blue but it turns everything a bright white.
however if you use to much it will start to tint blue, so I would soak with blueing alittle at a time, it should work with in a couple of soaks, it will be a nice bright white when its all done.
