The separation of samples and/or standards is a function of the Stationary phase and the Mobile phase, not the plate material.

The material that the plate is made from has no influence on the separation of the samples unless a strong acid or alkali is part of the system (which will react with the Aluminum).

Plastic and glass are very similar in TLC properties with glass being more expensive.

All the three types are being used in thin layer chromatography, but glass seems to work better due to more polished surface and easy to clean as well as less chances of getting dirty/ impurities.

It depends on your application, but pre-coated glass, plastic or Al slides should be similar. I prefer the pre-coated glass.

The loading and chromatographic conditions will affect the separation more than the backer material.
