My mother was pregnant with twins and lost one and I was the surviving twin. As a young child I didn't know I was a twin. I would always tell my mom that I felt as if I were missing a companion. I had two older sisters and yet I always felt lonely like I missed someone close to me. That's when my mom told me it was normal to feel what I was feeling because she was carry two and due to a bad fall she lost my sister. Now there are twins in my family. Two beautiful one year old girls from my niece. Whose my middle sisters daughter. I have a 14 year old daughter I hope one day when she is married she have twins. Till this day I wished my sister would be here.

Death means separated from life, so no they are not together forever. However, like any of us losing a loved one, we feel the loss after they've gone, sometimes for decades. With twins, who were knit together at the same time, and knew only each other before the world, that bond would have been very much closer, and so losing one would have a great impact on the other regardless of being out in the world together!
What a sad way to start life, how cruel:(

No, I think the family talks about the other twin within earshot of the surviving twin.
My sister lost her son at 3 months old to SIDS, his twin (my niece) talks about the baby who lives in heaven and has named an Angel doll after him.
We talk about him from time to time...and she's playing in the next room. Children are smarter than you think.

In their hearts, yes. Just like anyone else who loses a close friend, or a family member. Twins are not any different than anybody else. We all have people we love forever, and many of us lose them. One is not closer to another soul, just because they are a twin.

My mom is a twin, and her mother had an accident that caused my mother's twin sister to die. My mother never mentions anything about missing her twin or feeling a connection with her twin.

Interesting question!! I believe yes. They were so closely connected in the womb that perhaps they even share a part of the soul.
