Touchpad is damaged....the pad is basicly a matrix if vertical and horizontal lines that get connected as you press them...if the coursor os jumping around then the pad is defective....

I work on Dell laptops alot, and the Latitude C610 in particular has that problem. The cursor will move on its own even without touching it. The touchpad will probably need to be replaced.

If it's like my HP, I don't know *why* it happens, but intermittently, the settings seem to get bungled (maybe the touch areas get out of whack or the so-called "palm sensitivity" or whatever...) So I just go back into "device settings" and go through some or all of the mish-mash and start all over again and save it, and that seems to solve the problem...grrr...
