What examples of The Great Depression depicted in the film. I have food shortges, stock market crash.. what else really went down?

nobody had any money, people were starving, there was no work for people to do and what work they did find was menial, i would assume crime was on a rise as well because of the problems, people lost their homes and everything they had, suicides from loss of income/livelihood

Unfortunately at the rate the Republicans and Democrats are neglecting the people they are supposed to be governing, we may get to experience a "great depression" first hand. Job loss and the shortage of opportunity to earn a sustenance wage sufficient to support your family we the over riding concern for most people of the era. What went down is that war profiteering Federally backed corporate structures looted the national economy, raped the consumer and the tax coffers of the American congress and bankrupted the country under the guise of fighting a war. Much the same as what is currently happening under the Bush administrations insane foreign policy.
