I was in a car accident last week, where we had a driver come across us at 90 degrees to our car and when we collided, my right knee hit the dash. It didn't hurt at first, and later that night the swelling and bruising showed up and I was in considerable pain.

After a week, the bruising and swelling has gone down, but now I have a slight discoloration underneath the bruised area, and I have a bit of bruising just above the base of my foot, again below where the bruised area is.

Is this normal?

i think it's normal, because when i broke my ring finger knuckle, my pinky, lower hand, index, middle finger, ring finger, and part of my hand was bruised. The doctors said it was normal because i move my hand so much, the blood spreads. Since your knee is on your leg, and you move your leg alot, i think it's normal and the blood was just flowing down because of gravity.

I hope that you went to the hospital right from the scene of the accident and had an x-ray taken. There is a certain amount of time that you have before you will not be able to hold the other driver liable for your pain. I had been in a car accident and yes it is normal for the pain to start later. It usually takes 24 hours for the swelling and pain to settle in. As far as the brusing goes if it was black and blue in one spot and is now brusing below it, that is also normal because the blood in your leg is leaking downward. If you keep your leg up the brusing should not travel much farther. It is also normal for the true color of the bruse to come to the surface a while later since the bruse could have been very deep and is just working its way to the surface now. I am not a doctor and dont claim to be one but from experiance I have found the way the body black and blues is just as I had explained. If you have not gotten medical treatment I suggest that you do so ASAP. You may have something very wrong with your knee and you will want to make sure that you can get the treatment for it that is owed to you because of the other drivers neglegence. I hope you feel better, keep putting ice on it and keeping it up. Good luck.

i think of ensure you get it appeared at, if that is been 3 weeks this is reason for concern. the actuality which you purchased a bruise down in a community the place you didnt even get hit makes it seem such as you strained something. i've got had and seen particularly some activities injuries enjoying pickup basketball, and that i do no longer understand what it particularly is, yet I do the waiting game too yet while it get's to a definite factor i think of that is nicely worth it to verify what's incorrect with you from a dr.
