Defender is anti spyware program by Microsoft. You don't have an antivirus program preloaded with VISTA.
To be on safe side download AVG7.5 free from www.grisoft.com
2. Yahoo checks for virus the email and attachments with Norton.
3. If you download Yahoo Toolbar for IE , you get 90 days free trial of Norton. Check the details before downloading. AVG is more than
adequate. Please Update regularly.
I am having XP Pro . Sorry not sure about Vista' features. .
Kerio Personal Firewall from Sunbelt may work with Vista.
working nicely with XP PRO SP2.

Right now the only free versions I know of that work on Vista are AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ and Avast http://www.avast.com/

If you are looking for a paid solution then certain versions of McAfee will work (version 7.1) but corporate edition 8.5 DOES NOT run on Vista. Also, select versions of Norton run on Vista as well.

Check with your ISP and see which antivirus solutions they offer, since I have Comcast highspeed I was able to get McAfee Security Center for free (version 7.1 I beleive) which is about the only all-in-one suite I know for sure that runs on Vista.

I wouldn't trust the firewall in Vista as far as I could toss my computer (which weighs about 100lbs). It's no better than the one in XP and outbound protection is off by default, you are only getting the one-way firewall, just like you did in XP. Unfortunately there are no free third party firewalls that work on Vista, ZoneAlarm does not work and the Comodo firewall does not work.

The Kerio Personal firewall does not work either, however, there is a Beta version of the WinRoute Firewall that does run under Vista, http://www.kerio.com/beta_section.html the only problem with this is that it is only a beta trial and will expire when a new version is released or the product is released in its final form but until that time it will be fully functional.

Use Trend Micro Internet Security 2007. Its the first and I think the only WINDOWS VISTA CERTIFIED antivirus software. Norton is just windows vista compatible but not certified yet.
