He could consider getting Cheney to resign. That might actually help his party in the 2008 election since he could appoint a new vp who could run for president. But this would probably not help Bush at all in the next two years. His administration would still be perceived as a sinking ship. It did not help Nixon to get rid of some of his advisers and his vice president, but it did give the Republican party a shot in the next election. That's about all Bush can hope for.
