SHould we punish people for it a fine and the like? is it a sin now? What other manners are considered harrassment in today's world?

If so I guess I am going to get fined a lot. I was taught by my elders to respect people in general. The use of terms like Sir and Maam were not only stressed, but rather demanded in my house growing up. Women were to be respected, but also treated like ladies. I always hold the door for women, at the elevator I wait for them to enter, and I offer my seat when no others are available and a woman enters the room. To date I have not had any woman complain about these actions directly to me, or anyone else that I am aware of. In short, if being polite is now to be considered politically incorrect then I guess I will always be guilty in this area.

Holding the door open for a woman is not harassment, legally or even socially, and someone trying to use it as such to try and manipulate an arguement is shamefull.
Manners and Courtesy can sometimes conflict but only by an individuals use of what another sees as disagreeable and they have told you so then that becomes harrasment.
Courtesy would dictate you aquiece to anothers request and desist doing something they personally feel offended by.
If you insist on doing it your way then you are showing a lack of manners.

I don't know, but I'll tell you some of these "laws" and "sins" is just plain stupid in my opinion. Holding a door open for someone a harrassment? People need to seriously get real and get a life. I know what you mean, some people are just never satisfied.

I'm a woman and I appreciate and thank anyone that holds the door open for me. I in return hold doors open for all sorts of different people.I think we need more manners like opening doors or saying excuse me when you walk in front of some one at a store.

It is?? Wow I'm in trouble then, I'm a woman and I've held doors open for men and women... My parents taught me it was a courtesy thing, you hold the door open for someone if they're coming in behind you, or if their hands are full. I guess at the age of 30 I'm old-fashioned. Personally I find it a very nice gesture when someone holds a door open for me, not harassment!

This country has mental problems. Sometimes I feel that people here are completely ignorant. If making a dollar is more important than having human desensy then I won't be suprised if handshakes, public display of affection, or simply looking won't be harrasment in the eye of the law. Get real people and wake up.

Well, call me "old fashioned" because I appreciate it when a gentleman holds the door open for me. I think it's rude if they don't. And I do the same for people who are behind me when going through a door...men or women.

This is not harassment...it's common courtesy.

Whatever you're taking for your bi-polarness, it 'aint working. Each time I open a door for a woman, not one has complained. If the woman is ahead of me, she has the option to open the door or step to the side and I'll do the honors. There's enough government interference now to be adopting another rule or law for this trivial act.

Equality before the law would require that it be an offence if is was a woman who held it open for a man too, so Nope.

Not a Sin either.
