I've been a B of A customer for about 20 years but I'm considering changing to a different bank. I have great credit, no debt, etc... Is it a big hassle to close an account at one bank and open a new one somewhere else? I wonder if it's worth the trouble.

Eeeeewwwww! I would definitely change banks. It is easy. Just go to the bank you want to use, open an account & start making deposits. Then, after all the outstanding checks have cleared BofA & you have changed over your direct deposits/withdrawals, close your BofA acct.
