Here's what I do....When I get take out (a lot by the way)...I check the entire order before I leave. If I didnt have to ask for anything that they forgot, down to napkins, condiments, etc. I give them a two dollar tip. Not the normal $18%. They didnt prepare it or serve it. They packaged it. I also take note of their name. The next time I call ahead, I ask for that person if they are working, or I tell them what a great job they did with my order last time. First, it recognizes them. Second, it makes them aware that I know their name (and could use it, if I report them to management for not getting my order right). I use their name 2-3 times during my order. When I go in, my order is exactly correct, and they get another tip.

Picking up a pizza: No. Especially if its only a pizza
Carside service: Yes, the person is braving the weather and bringing the food to you. Tip like you're at a buffet place.
To go order from fancy restaurant: Yes, because you're not just ordering a sandwich, probably, and it kinda detracts from the dining customers. You don't need the 20%, just a couple bucks.
Servers make less than minimum wage.... just a thought

If the food is ready to go and nice and hot and you dont have to ask for anything else that they forgot.. sure...but not 15-20%. Maybe like 5% because you didn't dine there. If you go there to pick up your food and have to wait over 10 min after the time that they told you to be there and they forget stuff and you have to ask them for something you paid for that they forgot to put in the bag then they don't deserve a tip because that would be horrible customer service.

As a rule, I usually give them a small tip. Not the same tip I would give someone who waited on a table....different sort of service...otherwise, yes tip definately. You always want to tip, the person who handles your food and the person who cuts your hair...otherwise, the next time you go back, you'll never know what to expect.

Definitely! It takes a server's time to box up all that food. But don't feel compelled to tip as much as if they were giving you personal service throughout the meal. Maybe 8-10% of the ticket.

Yes you should. Mostly because a server that had to take time away from their customers in the dining room is probably the person who put everything together for you.
And I figure that if you did not shop for, prep, or have to cook the meal, then why not kick down a few more dollars for that luxury ??
But that's just me.

this is a good question...i work at applebees and run the carside every once in a while....I think if you think the person deserves a tip then yes tip them....it is the same as when you sit down in a restaurant. it is a tipped postition but a tip is a tip and not required.

if your food was ready, hot, and all of the items in the bag (jellies, butters, fork , napkins etc) then absolutely
it takes time to wait on that order, just like it does for them to take the order at your table
also pizza delivery drivers should ALWAYS be tipped if the pizza is still hot or warm...people think they have it so easy, my son used to deliver pizzas, and let me tell you they bust their behinds to get your food to you hot and on time...they are way overlooked and under tipped...most times they are even using their own car and putting wear and tear on that
