I would say that most emos are teenagers judging from the definitions below. Teenagers go through a lot being in between children and adults trying to figure things out. Some may like the troubled rocker look while others may have decided to accept being an outcast and rebel against the mainstream. Some people are just more comfortable with being depressed... it's like they can't imagine being happy and they just accept it. I think that for the most part it's a phase some teenagers go through.

When referring to a person's personality and attitude, most definitions of emo hold that an "emo person" is candid about their emotions, sensitive, shy, introverted, broken-hearted, glum, and often quiet.

Emo personality is also often connected with writing poetry, which addresses confusion, depression, loneliness, and anger, all resulting from the world's inability to understand the author. Emo poetry uses a combination of any of: a highly emotional tone, stream of consciousness writing, a simple (ABAB) or nonexistent rhyme scheme, references to the flesh, especially the heart, heavy use of dark or depressing adjectives, concern over the mutability of time and/or love, and disregard for punctuation, grammar, and/or spelling. Themes such as "life is pain" are common.

Some definitions of emo hold that typical "emo persons" are likely to inflict self-injury, most often by means of cutting, burning, or otherwise mutilating themselves. The theme of self-injury is also common in emo poetry.

i'm emo/goth sure there's a distinction and that i'm a mixture of the two... My dad calls me emish, i'm waiting for that to seize on haha... Emos are great the form rocks alongside with the style in track and clearly emo is created by ability of inauspicious lives or pasts in spite of if, this would not propose we are consistently unhappy and depressed we do smile!!

overprivleged suburbanites who have no talents, possess a follow the leader mentality, rebel against conformity yet all look the same, and complain about all the problems that make life worth living.

grow up and deal emo's, life is full of pain and suffering. all of us have it and most of us deal with it and still llive happily. get a clue and stop whining like something is seriously wrong with you.

You answered your own question....they are all just big attention seekers. I think these kids are emotionally deprived of something otherwise they wouldn't be seeking this negative attention.

Emos are "tortured souls" who are sort of rebelling against their own lives. I don't think their seeking attention, but I could be wrong. I'm not an emo, but I think they're cool.

some kids are attention seekers,
But if your so caught up in tough love,
your going to miss some one who REALLY needs your help.

Don't be so dismisive,
they may piss you off, but grit your teeth and try and show them the light,
but be patient.
