I had this problem, and found out when I changed the oil in my car some spilled onto the engine and when the engine got hot, it stank!

Change your heat from venting from outside to circulating the air within your car. (If it stops the smell is coming from your engine, perhaps what happened to me, happened to you.)

If the smell is still there when you change the air inflow, then I might take it to a car shop.

(All in all, give it some time. Keep an eye on your dials like engine and oil, etc. If there is a change in these while your driving and it happens when the smell starts take your car in for sure.)

This could be caused by an oil leak on the engine is occurring and the oil is being heated by engine or exhaust manifold. When the heater is turned on it may be sucking in some smoke through cracks where heater core si located. While the engine is running and warm, open the hood and look for oil leaks or try smell for burning oil. Another possibility may the heater core is leaking and some coolant burning off. You may want to keep an eye on your coolant level until problem problem is solved. Good luck.

Your heater core needs to be replaced. I bet your windows tend to fog over as well.

Take it to shop immediately! and let them see what's going on. Sounds serious.
