My friend left an 1995 Escort GT in my garage, I have no idea why it won't start. It's got a new battery. He sent me the title for free, so it's mine. I thinking about using it as a commuter car so I don't have to put too many miles on my SAAB. I'm going to have it towed to a shop this afternoon. What are the common repairs for a car that has not run in a year or so?

common problems- bad gas\water in gas, mouse damage[ wires and insulation] ,bad electrical connections, sticky contacts, rust on moving parts, frozen brake pads or shoes, sutck fuel pump, most likely you have either an electrical issue or bad gas. you didn't say if it turned over or not. if it does check for spark and fuel.

Do an oil/filter change, drain and flush the fuel lines, put fresh fuel in tank, (old fuel will deteriorate and become heavy like varnish),and get some starter fluid. If it was in running condition before it sat, then it should start with a little coaxing with starter fluid, or a splash of gasoline in the intake manifold. (carburetor if not injection) Use caution with gas, and watch for back-fire when cranking the engine. Luck to you.

clean the entire fuel system and the electrical connectors, change all of the lubricating fluids to start, then start looking for fault reasons as for no start.clean the air intakes of any and all debris that may have accumulated, regardless of its signifigance. dont forget the exhaust either, bugs/bees and rodents just love a nice hide-away
