I have a Raccoon problem in my back yard...they literally destroy my newly planted backyard on a nightly basis...is there anything I can do to detere them???

dog is a bad idea - a raccoon can seriously injure a dog (like, dismbowel them!!) and dogs naturally want to get racconns so you could be setting your dog uip for serious injury.

they are a nuisance - esp. with new turf..

you can try covering with chickene wire - or better yet, sprinkle cayenne pepper.. you can also purchase chemical compounds that will scare them away - usually containing the urine of a larger predator.. check your local garden supply store.

Sprinkle Cayenne pepper around your plants at dusk or put a nice big bowl of dog food out for them and they won't be hungry and dig for worms any more and they will be your buddies its cheap to do and the get some easy food it ain't easy being a raccoon

I found this amazing contraption at my local pond store!

It costs $70 USD and is totally humane and effective.

It hooks up to your garden hose and has a motion sensor. When pests come round it sprays them with a quick blast of water!
