or a high school home ec department. they sew things all the time and some of the students might not be able to afford as much cloth as others. churches make quilts for the homeless, too.

Instead of handing the fabrics over to Goodwill or charity, why not make a fun project out of it? Send out an invitation to anyone in your community to craft items from the fabrics which can then be donated to needy organisations either to be sold or for their own use. You can make cushions, calico dolls, quilts, doll clothes, baby clothes, shawls, dressed, etc. Involve the whole community and turn it into a community based project. That way, you will get to use the cloths for a good purpose, engage in a community event, spend time with your friends and loved ones and you get to own the satisfaction of helping others.

Well there are many things you can do with the fabric. And yes goodwill will accept it. You can donate the fabric to art classes at colleges, you can take it to a fabric store and donate it, you can take it to a quilt shop and have them make you some quilts if you'd like. but if you just want to get rid of it without spending money take it to goodwill. One more idea is to take it to a retirement home community and ask the director if they would like any of it. I have a friend that works in a retirement community and she says those women make stuff as if they were working in a sweat shop, they like to occupy their time by being productive. You have alot of options choose one that you feel would be best.

Man, I would love to get all that fabric!!! Many people sell fabric on eBay. Yes, Goodwill takes fabric. Also, you could advertise it in your local trading journals and on Craig's List.
You may want to see if there is a quilting guild in your area. They would love to have it.

If you would like to donate the fabric, consider asking local community theatre groups if they would be interested in receiving it. There is an ongoing need for costumes, and budgets are frequently barely sufficient.
There are also "special education" schools that are always looking for donations of craft and hobby supplies, since budgets are frequently restricted to "academic" items.
I have also seen fabric for sale in thrift shops, including Goodwill, so I don't think they would refuse it. If there are any veterans' organizations in your area that collect merchandise for thrift shops, they may also be interested in it.

Freecycle.org is one way to go if you dont mind giving it away- there is always someone looking for fabric to make things either they could not afford to buy or to make things for homeless or battered women's shelters.
There are lots of people tat sell fabric on ebay but that could be time consuming and you would want to make sure it is fabric people will bid on before you actually pay for listing it.
I love to sew and am teaching my children but I can rarely afford fabric- I would take it off your hands if oyu were in the area- I am sure there are many like me in your area who would be blessed by receiving some of this fabic either free or for a very reasonable price- try freecycle- there is bound to be a group in your area and if you are wanting to sell it- check out yahoo groups for a craigslist or trade list in your area- you can post it as a take all or break it up into groups and sell or give away different lots.

Check with some local churches by calling them to see if they could use them for crafts.
Check with high school drama departments to see if they may be interested in it.
The local Boys & Girls club might be able to use it.
Also the local animal shelter usually takes towels and blankets to make beds for the strays in the kennels. They might love to have that stuff!

Sell it on Ebay.
Make something cool. Buy a "wave" CD rack and take some somewhat transparent fabric and turn it into a kick @$$ floor lamp. Fill it with twinkle lights. I did and it's beautiful.
Find a quilt guild and sell it to them like on HGTV or something.

Call your local fabric store and see if they know a local quilting bee that might use them.

you could also contact the local veteran's office to see if they have an organization that would make colorful quilts for returning servicepeople from Iraq and Iran
