People that choose not to have children seem to be penalized when it comes to paying taxes. People that have children, which is their choice get tax breaks when their children are using the resources that our taxes pay. The more children you have, the more you should be paying taxes...not less. Am I missing something here?

I have two children by the way.
I think the population of the US needs to slow down.
If you choose to have children you better make enough money to support them yourself...that's how I see it.
It shouldn't be the govt to help raise you own kids.

I agree. Why do people get so-called family credit? They chose to have children, why can't they pay for them?

If no one had babies, the human race would die out. I guess the IRS doesn't want that. Also it takes a LOT more money than what a parent gets back to actually raise a child, not including college. If every article of clothing and bite of food was tax deductable these people would be RICH. As such, how many rich parents live on your block?

The amount of taxes parents pay is less, just to ease their situation a little bit. That extra bit might be keeping entire families off government support ie: food stamps.

So I just pay my taxes and ignore the rest.

The Government encourages people to have families, they know that giving them a tax break might help a bit. and in many cases it does! Plus, a man with an entire family and a wife to support has more expenses and more mouths to feed, lets say makes the same income as a some guy living on his own. this man chose to have a luxurious life and thus might be able to get stuff he wants to needs because he has the money to do so. In simpler terms, the government assumes that someone who has no kids, has less expenses and more money that the government can benefit from.

Do you know that it costs, on average, about a half a million dollars to raise a child until its 18? That's why we're given breaks. And somebody's got to keep the human race going so why do you think we should be penalized???

And my fiance and I pay a lot out in taxes so it's not like we're getting any handouts...

You obviously don't have children. Because if you did, you would know how EXPENSIVE it is to raise children. Children can't go out and get jobs, they need constant supervision and care and that costs money.
