When I am going uphill or when I accelerate really fast my Chevy makes a really weird crackling noise and stumbles and loses power for a second. Then the "Service Engine" light comes on. Any freakin idea? lol. Its really annoying.

If the service engine light comes on you should be able to retrieve the error code. check out this website http://patriot.net/~bmcgin/scanner.html

That crackling noise is called "detonation," which means that you have ignition in the combustion chamber(s) at the wrong time. Keyword time. The timing is probably off, or the engine is getting really hot for some reason and then detonating. Detonation will destroy a motor really quick. Check the timing and temperature of the engine.

Crap in the gas. Happened to my 76 Chev Nova when going up hills. Had to remove the tank and flush it out. (If you do this, be very careful. Make sure tank is empty or near empty, and follow all mfg recommendations dealing with fuel.)

Check the head gasket. Look for water in the sump. Sounds like my old BMW.

All of the above answers were good advice. If it were my car I'd replace the Fuel Filter before I tried anything else.......

Check your engine codes; it is the best way. Parts are expensive;you shouldn't be guessing.
