Not the way I would like, which is stomp on them until they give up, bomb the area back into the stone age and let them know the US is not screwing around.

Bush is commander-in-chief thus he sets the tone and the overall general plan. The generals have to execute that plan based on real battlefield conditions. The top generals should be in touch with the President for changes as needed.

So now you're trying to insulate Bush from HOW the war is going, too? Which generals do you want to have hauled up on charges?
Whether it's FEMA/Katrina, fired US attorneys, Walter Reed, Gitmo, black prisons, or extraordinary renditions, it's BUSH who is in charge. Your hero.

Oh, didn't you know? Bush handles everything to do with this country!!!!!! He knows everything going on all around the world in every corner of the world that pertains to the US. I have never seen a man credited with such a talent for multi-tasking! I guess some people don't understand that he relies on others to do their part to maintain this country.

no, it would be the commander in chief who makes the decisions...the generals can suggest a change of course, but eberytime they do, they are replaced or resign. See Colin Powell also see Iraq Study Group. So, party of personal accountablity, how about using some of that now?

Dismantling of Iraq'a government was easy, justifications for entering Iraq went unfounded, and nation building has proven difficult.

Well, he is obviously handling it better than you would. Especially considering you don't know that the commander in chief is above the generals. The generals give him information and suggestions, and he makes decisions based off of this information and suggestions.
